After living in Knowle West for nearly my whole life, I moved house and felt like a traitor! I loved my new home but I missed my community and familiar streets. I sat on my front wall, viewing the edge of my neighbourhood (only one road out of the 'boundary'). I came inside and wrote a love letter to Knowle West. It then became a song to her as if I've broken up with someone, but still wanting to be friends i.e. visiting and working there still. Which was also partly inspired by my uncle Man Yan who has stayed very good friends with his ex, he said just cus we're no longer in love doesn't mean I stop loving her (as a friend). He gave me something very interesting to think about that day.
lyrics
You’re just across the street, just out of reach
But I hear your voice is gone
And oh how I miss your face, I miss this place
But I stayed for far too long
And I know who you are
And you know, you know me
And I loved you from afar
But still, but still I see
Well if we can’t be lovers then can we be friends
No under the cover, love has no end
Well if we can’t be lovers then can we be friends
No under the cover, love has no end
I learned that change was good, sometimes we should
Know when to move on
My heart needs time, no longer mine
But where, where have you gone
Distant memories
Feel so, feel so close to me
But everything I see
You’re still, you’re still a part of me
Well if we can’t be lovers then can we be friends
No under the cover, love has no end
Well if we can’t be lovers then can we be friends
No under the cover, love has no end
Oh how, oh how, time goes, time goes by
Feel the changes, rearranging
Oh how, oh how, time goes, time goes by
Feel the changes, rearranging
Well if we can’t be lovers then can we be friends
No under the cover, love has no end
Well if we can’t be lovers then can we be friends
No under the cover, love has no end
